Abington School District

In addition to the pep rally, Roslyn Elementary School honored the Birds win by collecting over 1,100 cans of soup for a local food cupboard. Student council members loaded vehicles up yesterday for delivery!

On February 2nd, the results for All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble were announced. We are happy to report that Nick Hilliard, a sophomore at Abington Senior High School, qualified for the ensemble. The PMEA All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble, which is a part of the 2018 PMEA All-State Festival in Lancaster, PA April 19-21st, is made up of 24 singers from across Pennsylvania. After rehearsing in the group for two days, Nick and his peers will be performing in a concert on Friday, April 20th.

Students at McKinley Elementary School continued the theme of green last weekend with their performance of Shrek Jr. Students and volunteers have been preparing for months by producing the sets, developing the props, and practicing their musical performances. Congrats to the entire cast and crew on two great shows!

The first hourly line dance is underway at the 5th annual mini-THON! Just over 7 more hours to go!

A Friday for the kids! Students from Abington Senior High School, as well as ninth-graders, hosted a mini-THON to raise money for the Four Diamonds foundation, benefiting pediatric cancer treatment and research. Nearly 300 students participate in the eight-hour, all-standing event each year, which includes everything from sporting events and a lip-sync contest, to a family hour where students hear stories of those who have been personally impacted by childhood cancer.

Ninth grade students are currently participating in the Senior High's mini-THON event. Each year, nearly 300 students stand for eight-consecutive hours to raise money for the Four Diamonds foundation to benefit pediatric cancer treatment and research!

Congratulations to the outstanding group of students who participated in last Friday's Mini-Thon! Over 300 students fundraisered a new record of over $53,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund which treats Pennsylvania children with Pediatric cancer. Congratulations to this years' overall chairs and next year's overall chairs as they continue the fight against cancer with the guidance of Casey Chakler, Dawn McGee, Mike Zanetti, Kelly Miller & Jessica Levin. For the kids!

Congratulations to four of our Copper Beech Elementary School students who were selected to have their poems published in the Fall 2017 edition of the Creative Communication Poetry Anthology from Poetic Power!

Join the students of Abington Junior High School for a special production of "The Addams Family," held in the Little Theater. Tickets are $10 and available for purchase at the Abington Junior High School reception desk.

Mr. Shuster's first graders and Mr. Schaffer's sixth graders at Roslyn Elementary School collaborated on a service learning project to help bring some Valentine's Day cheer to hospitalized veterans. The two classes have been sending "Thank You" Valentines to the Philadelphia Veterans Medical Center as a small token of appreciation for their brave service to our country.

Big things ahead for Abington School District, and a big thanks to class of 1965 alumnus Stephen A. Schwarzman! His just-announced landmark gift of $25 million will support the expansion and full-scale renovation of Abington High School, and is in recognition of his love of public education and appreciation for Abington's role in setting him up for success.
